Buzios is a resort town in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is East of Rio de Janeiro and is about a 2 hour, 45 minute drive. It is a sea town, and is renowned for its nightlife, beaches and gastronomy.
We have been there twice, the first time in March 2003 and because we enjoyed it so much we went back with our kids in December 2003, unfortunately my husband lost all our photos from those trips.
Buzios has tropical weather and is warm all year long. The sea water is also warm and it is pleasant to swim in the water. The water is clear and turquoise.
There is a statue of the French actress, Brigitte Bardot near the sea side. She often came to Buzios on holiday to get away from paparazzi when she was dating her Brazilian boyfriend at the time and she loved the small seaside town.
Buzios means diver in Portuguese and there are many dive sites around Buzios. You can do both snorkelling and scuba diving. There are 23 beaches that surround the Peninsula, some of the more popular ones are Ferradura, Tartaruga, and Azeda. You can do many water sports such as kayaking, waterskiing, banana boats, SUP, windsurfing and kite surfing. There are colourful fishing boats that dot the sea and there is lush vegetation that cover the surrounding hills. Picturesque indeed!
One thing that you can see at the beach, are the excellent sand castles. They are spectacular.
A must do is to go on a boat tour. You cruise around the peninsula and can jump off the boat and snorkel, you get can eat seafood on board.
In the main street in town there are many restaurants, my two favourites are Chez Michou a well know drinking spot and famous for its crèpes both sweet and savoury; and Do David a seafood restaurant. We had Bacalhau fish cakes (salted cod) and octopus stew. Delicioso!
The Catholic Church of Santa Anna is a quaint small church on top of a hill close to Praia Ossos (Ossos Beach). It was built in the 18th century and is the oldest church in Buzios.
We first stayed at Casa Brancas, a boutique hotel. The view from the patio of this hotel is simply magnificent! I would highly recommend this hotel, as it is awesome.
Buzios, a lovely little seaside town to visit if you are in Rio. After all we’ve been twice as we enjoyed it so much.
