Hanoi Day 1

Last June my younger son, Jordan and I travelled to Vietnam. We went on a custom made private tour of Vietnam. Our first stop was Hanoi. After arriving at the airport we waited for our visa on arrival. Our tour company had sent our passport details beforehand.

We got picked up at the airport by our tour guide Truong. He dropped us at our hotel Hotel de L’Opera . It is ideally situated in the Old Quarter. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have all the necessary items. They have a modern contemporary decor. We checked in, freshened up and had a nap before taking a walk around the Old Quarter.

On weekends the roads around Hoan Kiem Lake are closed and it becomes a pedestrian zone. My first impression of Hanoi was that it is a child friendly city with activities for children such as motorised small bikes and cars, ceramic painting, many stalls with toys for sale. It is also a relatively clean city.

That evening we had local Vietnamese food. Chicken fried rice and Vietnamese Spring Rolls. Delicious!

After dinner we went to sleep. Vietnam is 5 hours ahead from South African Time.

We used the tour company Custom Vietnam Travel Day Tours for our 10 day trip. I dealt with Susan. She was efficient, knowledgeable and organised. She replied to my emails promptly. They are an excellent company to deal with. I can highly recommend them. They met us at the hotel after checking in to finalise arrangements and gave us a gift. SO thoughtful!
